My fridge is a wasteland of half-eaten, abandoned chocolates. Russell Stover's, Whitman's Samplers, See's Candies, Hershey’s bell-shaped chocolates, you name it.

Most of the pieces have little nibbles out of the corner, made by the kids to tell if it's an undesirable—coconut, fruit, and mystery nougat usually. There's also peppermint bark and chocolate covered pecans. So yesterday I chopped it all up and threw it into chocolate chip cookie dough in place of the chocolate chips. It's a great way to recycle unwanted candy, which takes on a new dimension when embedded in vanilla dough and baked.

I also sprinkled the cookies with coarse sea salt before baking, creating a great salty/sweet thing. But the best thing, the kids loved them and had no idea the cookies were harboring their cast-off candy. No half-eaten cookies, for sure.
