No matter amount of coercion or bribing will really get kids to eat better. What will? Be a good role model and eat better yourself. But here are a few tips to help.

1.Make healthy snacks accessible and visible. Set out bowl of carrot and bell pepper sticks, grapes, cherry tomatoes or nuts, and they will get eaten.
2. Try new things a lot. It takes at least 5 times for kids to embrace new foods. So keep at it. After years of complaining about my “weird food,” my daughter now loves my pasta with clam sauce, sautéed okra, avocados, and good cheese. I’m still working on Sam, now 10.
3. For a quick dinner, pick up some California rolls or crunchy shrimp rolls (no raw fish in these) at the supermarket. Sushi is great healthy kids food. My kids love it.
4. Make it fun. My son will eat a lot of stuff as long as it’s “tricked up.” One of the tricks is using a super long straw for brothy soup. I guess this makes it a challenge. He’s also “sharpened” carrot sticks with a pencil sharpener, whatever works.
