Here’s a trick for slowing down the meal and getting conversation going: Gratitude Rolls. Have everyone write what they’re grateful for on strips of ordinary copy paper (you can have the kids type them up). Smear strips with butter to allow them to slip easily out of the roll. Unroll a package of refrigerated crescent rolls and place a paper strip on each piece of dough. Roll up and bake according to package directions. Match the messages to the guests who wrote them or simply read at the table (anonymously) for thought- provoking and heart-felt discussion.
