It’s becoming more frequent to find Brussels sprouts on the stalk these days. And when I come across them, I always buy one. They’re just plain fun—fun to display ia a big tall vase, and fun for the kids to pick off the stalk, one by one.

I hit the jackpot this year at Trader Joe’s. So, we’re working on our second one. Fortunately, I don’t have to prod my kids to eat Brussels sprouts, they’ve always like them—particularly with bacon, especially with bacon. Sometime we roast them and toss them with chopped bacon, sometimes we quick blanch them and saute with proscuitto.

This year we’ve also tossed them with butternut ravioli—although any refrigerated ravioli will work. The sweet butternut squash with the earthy Brussels sprouts and salty cheese is heaven.
